Energy Management

Welcome to the Energy Management home page....

Energy management is the process of monitoring, controlling, and conserving energy.

Typically this involves the following steps:

  1. Metering your energy consumption and collecting relevant data.
  2. Finding opportunities to save energy, and estimating how much energy each opportunity could save.
  3. Taking action to target the opportunities to save energy. Tracking your progress by analysing your energy consumption to see how well your energy-saving efforts have worked.

The Energy Management section of this SWI web portal gives you extensive information on Energy Plans, Energy Audit, Best Practice Guides, Monitoring & Targeting, Buying and Operating Equipment and Transport Energy

Energy management is important because it enables you to:

  • Reduce costs - this is becoming increasingly important as energy costs rise.
  • Reduce carbon emissions and the environmental damage that they cause.
  • Reduce risk - the more energy you consume, the greater the risk that energy price increases or supply shortages could seriously affect your profitability. With energy management you can reduce this risk by reducing your demand for energy and by controlling it so as to make it more predictable.  Furthermore, there is the opportunity to review alternative energy supply options.

Ideally your energy-management drive will be an ongoing effort to find new opportunities to use energy more efficiently and to reduce consumption and costs. Managing your energy consumption doesn't have to be a full-time job, but you'll achieve much better results if you make it part of your regular business practices.

Hopefully the information and resources provided in the SWI Decision Support Tools will increase your knowledge of how to manage your energy use, motivate you to use energy more efficiently and to be able to make better informed decisions related to all aspects of energy supply and demand.
